The new trend for tonal dressing is big on the catwalks. But how many different shades of the same colour can you cram into one outfit, and more importantly, will it suit you?

Check out the ASOS website for some good ideas on how to wear and blend berry red or purple – you’ll find plenty of inspiration.

 Very Berry

But did you know that you should either blend or contrast your outfits, depending on your natural colouring???

Here’s How….

Look at your face in the mirror. Do you have eyes that really stand out? Like Courtney Cox or Kate Bosworth? Are they in contrast from your hair colour?   i.e. you have black hair but bright blue eyes. Or do you have pale skin and light coloured hair, but very dark eyes? If you see a lot of contrast between your hair, eyes and skin colour, your outfit combos should reflect this. You will look great in colours that are obviously contrasting i.e monochrome white and black, blue and red and white etc.  Understand what is already going on in your natural features, reflect it in your outfit, and you will look simply stunning. Colour blocking and monochrome outfits are made for you and don’t forget your make-up – try eye and lip colours that mimic your outfit.

Or Do you have hair, eyes and skin that seem to blend together? Like Kate Winslett or Julia Roberts? If this is you, your eye and hair colour will be very similar, and they won’t be in sharp contrast to your hair colour. You will look fabulous in clothes combinations that blend softly together, so tonal dressing is definitely for you! Take one colour as your main palette, and then contrast it softly with variations on the shade. i.e if you look great in caramel browns, try mixing darker and lighter shades and accessorise with black, nude or tan leather. Bring a pop of colour into the mix with your lipstick or gloss!
