Happy New Year from Laura Doulton Image Consultancy!

January is a funny time…full of the promise of new beginnings, yet grey and miserable outside after all the sparkle of Christmas. It’s a bit like a boggy field we have to trudge through before we can get to Spring. But don’t despair!

As far as the shops are concerned, the new season starts in Febuary when all the new collections come to land!  It’s sheer bliss to see some gorgeous Spring colour in the midst of of dreary days. Take some time to plan your wardrobe and enjoy the anticipation of brighter days to come. Over the coming weeks we will be guiding you through the new trends and helping you pick out some key pieces to update your wardrobe in style.

ABOVE…Boden’s Spring Collection is online now!

Here’s a quick snapshot of what you you can expect to see coming into the shops, with a few of our favourite picks, as well as some January beauty pick-me ups!

 1.Pure Whites…

Big this spring, but not the easiest colour to wear from ‘head to foot’ unless you’re a certain princess! Like it or not, the shops will be full of white in interesting textures like broderie, crochet and lace which you CAN work into your wardrobe and have fun with. If you are a ‘winter’ or ‘clear’, you can rock this trend and look absolutely stunning. But for those of you with a warmer skin tone, look for softer creams instead, and pair with another colour.  A fabulous fitting white/cream shirt or blouse is a great wardrobe staple, but try one with some extra detail in it! Pair it with cardigan while it’s cooler now, and when it starts to heat up, on its own. Let the detail in the blouse do the talking!

A versatile tank style blouse from hobbs will look great peeping out from under a cardigan or on its own with some cigarette pants or a pair of jeans!
£99 from Hobbs

While this one from H&M (24.99) has gorgeous detailing with lace on the front section and pretty embroidered cuffs.

2.Sharp Tailoring

Structure and simplicity are often a girl’s best friend! Nothing can be easier than throwing on a tailored pair of trousers and matching them with a simple top.  Or perhaps you like wearing jeans but need to look smarter? The answer, a structured jacket!

We adore these coral trousers from Reiss. So easy to wear casually or for smarter occasions. The outfitting is endless!

Joanna-Kiv trousers £95

This open blazer from French Connection is effortless to wear with trousers, jeans or over a dress. Try it with a red or blue breton top and you’ll definitely have a spring in your step! Excellent for an apple shaped lady!

Classic Ruth fitted Jacket £140

A lovely blazer from Boden. It’s such a pretty colour and really excellent on those of you with a warm skin. Boden do great jackets that last and last!

 3. Stripes Galore…

Nautical stripes always herald the arrival of spring, but you won’t just be seeing them on breton tops. Designers have stamped their collections with stripes; horizontal, vertical, chevron and diagonal on shoes, bangles and bags and more. Take note…stripes can do wonders for your figure if you wear them in the right way…

The downward pointing chevron stripes on this top will work wonders on somebody thick waisted or with a bit of a tummy. Wear it layered under a open waterfall cardigan for a really flattering effect!

CC Fashions £39.50

A versatile and stylish little crossover dress from M&S. A great transitional piece that can be worn with tights or bare legs when its warmer. The more diagonal stripes on tops will flatter a boyish figure, adding curves. Good on apples and slim pairs too. Wear it with a cardigan left open but belted in. Try accessorising with bright reds, corals and yellow!

If you’re a pear shape, draw the eye up with an eye-catching striped blazer. This is a fun way to work the trend. Liven it up even more with a bright top underneath and keep your bottom half neutral. Ensure the blazer is really nipped in at the waist and finishes above your hips. Accessorise with yellow or red pumps or heels!

Cotton Striped Blazer £45, Next

Ok, these are loud and you’d have to be confident to pull it off. But if you’re an apple with gorgeous legs then you can do it with the best of them! Pair them with a relaxed loose fitting shirt or sweater. Wear with a navy trench coat and some great ballet pumps or heels. We think these are FAB!
